AJ Bell merits a ringing endorsement

If Hargreaves Lansdown is the big fish in the investment pond then AJ Bell remains a relative minnow; but make no mistake, the game is on for the potentially lucrative wallets of the UK’s investors and savers.

While Hargreaves Lansdown has the sheer scale of its £97.8 billion of assets under management on its side, at £50.7 billion, AJ Bell has plenty of investment firepower and is making a good fist of playing catch-up.

AJ Bell is a stockbroker and investments provider that was set up in Manchester in 1995 by two entrepreneurs, one of whom, Andy Bell, 53, remains chief executive. Its central customer offering is an investment platform through which punters can use individual savings accounts and self-invested personal pensions to buy shares,
